I have performed and recorded many styles of music throughout the Dallas metroplex over the years in venues including church, private parties, music festivals, recording studios, clubs, bars and restaurants. Musical settings include solo piano, small groups and big band . My background also includes music degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of North Texas. I continue to be musically active in the Dallas area performing with several musical groups.
I started playing piano when I was 8 years old. My background was mostly classical until late high school and early college. Then I started dabbling in a few local rock/pop bands and playing by ear. I discovered jazz sometime during late high school and was fascinated with it from the very beginning. However, I did not make much progress until later at USM.
I started playing in jam sessions around Hattiesburg and the USM campus but I was frustrated by my lack of theoretical knowledge. Someone introduced me to some of Dan Haerle's jazz theory books and I was hooked. From those books and more jam session experience I gained enough skill to start performing with various groups in the Gulf coast area including Pensacola, Mobile, Biloxi, Hattiesburg and New Orleans. I also performed in annual jazz festivals in Jackson and played with the USM Jazz Lab Band.
My commitment to music continued to grow and I eventually moved to Denton, Texas to pursue a jazz studies degree at UNT. There I performed in various lab bands, combos and the Zebras. After graduating from UNT I started a technology career, raised a family in Denton and continued to perform often around the Dallas metroplex. Over the last 4 years I have been more active performing and recording than ever.
